The life of Lauren Grace Liu remains deeply remembered by her family, friends and the community she touched. A freshman at Kent Place School in Summit, New Jersey, Lauren died on October 30, 2017, at the age of 14. Her parents, James and Helen Hurh Liu, shared a moving obituary celebrating her achievements, kindness and the happiness she brought to those around her. Lauren Liu’s Academic and Athletic Achievements Lauren was an accomplished student who earned straight A grades during her first trimester at Kent Place School. She also earned a place in the starting lineup of the school’s varsity tennis team, which went on to win its first state championship. Beyond academics and sport, Lauren loved skiing and dancing. Her family remembered annual trips to Snowbird, Utah, where she enjoyed challenging ski runs. Dancing was another important part of her life, and her parents recalled how emotionally expressive she was when performing. They also remembered her gentle nature, infectious laughter and consideration for others. Lauren Grace Liu’s Cause of Death According to the obituary published by her parents, Lauren died by suicide after privately experiencing depression. Her family chose to speak openly about her struggles, hoping their painful experience would encourage greater understanding of mental illness and help other families recognise the importance of seeking support. Her story is a reminder that academic success, athletic ability and an outwardly happy appearance do not necessarily reveal what someone may be experiencing internally. Hope for Lauren Foundation: Turning Grief Into Support Following her death, the Liu family established the Hope for Lauren Foundation to support children affected by depression and mental illness, fund research, raise awareness about suicide prevention and assist families affected by suicide. Lauren’s parents, James and Helen, and her brother, David, were named in her obituary, alongside other close relatives. Remembering Lauren’s Life and Legacy Although Lauren’s life ended far too soon, her memory continues through the stories shared by those who knew and loved her. Her achievements, creativity and kindness remain important parts of the tribute her family created. Her family’s commitment to mental health awareness also gives her memory a continuing purpose: encouraging compassion, honest conversations and support for young people experiencing emotional difficulties. May Lauren Grace Liu be remembered with love, and may her family and everyone who misses her find comfort. Share this...
