Filipino comedian Gil Aducal Morales, popularly known as Ate Gay, has died aged 55. His family confirmed his passing after a critical illness involving pneumonia, septic shock and a stroke.

Gil Aducal Morales’ Death Confirmed by Family

The Philippine entertainment industry is mourning the death of comedian and television personality Gil Aducal Morales, widely recognised by his stage name, Ate Gay. He died on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the age of 55, according to an announcement from his family.

In a statement shared through his official social media account, his relatives said he passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones. They also expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered prayers, encouragement, financial assistance and support during his illness.

Ate Gay’s Cause of Death: Pneumonia, Septic Shock and Stroke

Although the family has not released a separate final medical statement identifying one definitive cause of death, updates shared during his hospitalisation described several serious complications.

On October 17, 2026, Morales was taken to Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa after experiencing difficulty breathing. According to his family, doctors diagnosed septic shock and acute respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia. He was admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment and monitoring.

His condition remained critical. On October 29, his family disclosed that he had suffered a stroke that damaged the right side of his brain and that he continued to depend on life-support equipment.

Morales had previously revealed in September 2025 that he was battling Stage 4 mucoepidermoid carcinoma, a cancer commonly associated with the salivary glands. He underwent treatments that included chemotherapy and radiation. Later reports described encouraging developments in his cancer treatment, but his subsequent medical complications remained serious. It would therefore be inaccurate to attribute his death solely to cancer without a definitive medical confirmation.

Remembering Ate Gay’s Comedy Career

Ate Gay became familiar to Filipino audiences through his comedy performances, musical mashups and impersonations, particularly his portrayal of the late actress Nora Aunor. His distinctive stage persona helped him establish a place in Philippine entertainment and connect with audiences through humour and performance.

Family, Living Funeral and Final Tributes

On October 15, shortly before his death, Morales reportedly held a living funeral in Biñan, Laguna, where family members, friends and fellow entertainers had an opportunity to share their affection and appreciation with him.

Following his passing, his family thanked everyone who had supported them throughout his illness. They said details of his wake and funeral arrangements would be announced separately.

A Lasting Legacy of Laughter

Gil Aducal Morales will be remembered through the Ate Gay character, his comedy and the performances that brought laughter to Filipino audiences. His death at 55 is a sad loss for his loved ones, colleagues and fans.
