Catriona Mordant Obituary: Australian Arts Philanthropist’s Legacy of Generosity and Cultural Support

Catriona Mordant and Her Contributions to Australian Arts

Catriona Mordant is widely recognised for her philanthropy and longstanding support of Australia’s arts and cultural institutions. Alongside her husband, Simon Mordant, she has helped support artists, galleries, and cultural organisations through charitable giving and a shared commitment to making art accessible to wider audiences.

An article published on October 27, 2026, claims that Catriona died at the age of 69 following cancer, at the couple’s home in Umbria, Italy. However, I could not independently verify these details through a reliable obituary or an official announcement. Her reported death and the circumstances surrounding it should therefore be treated as unconfirmed.

Catriona and Simon Mordant’s Philanthropic Legacy

The Mordants have made significant contributions to Australia’s cultural sector. Their support for the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia helped fund its redevelopment, including the wing named in their honour. The museum has also acknowledged their financial support for exhibitions and other cultural initiatives.

Catriona Mordant: Personal Details and Reported Death

The article provided states that Catriona was 69 and had been living between Sydney and Umbria with her husband. Although public sources confirm her longstanding involvement in philanthropy, I could not verify the reported date of death, cancer diagnosis, or funeral arrangements from the sources reviewed.

Any confirmed announcement from her family or the organisations she supported would help clarify these claims.

Editorial note: Until reliable confirmation becomes available, it would be premature to publish a definitive obituary stating that Catriona Mordant has died. Her documented philanthropic contributions can be described accurately without presenting the unverified death report as established fact.
