Dylan Barthell, 38, of East Hampton, Connecticut, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Wilbur Cross Parkway in Orange. The other driver reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Details of the Fatal Wilbur Cross Parkway Collision

Connecticut State Police said troopers responded at approximately 4:17 p.m. on October 31 to a two-vehicle crash on southbound Route 15 near Exit 42B in Orange.

The preliminary investigation indicated that a 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck, driven by Barthell, was travelling in the left lane alongside a 2013 Ford Escape in the right lane. For reasons still being investigated, the pickup entered the right lane and struck the SUV.

Both vehicles left the roadway, crossed the right shoulder and struck a metal-beam guardrail. The vehicles went through the guardrail, and the pickup subsequently hit a highway sign support post before both came to rest on an embankment.

Other Driver Hospitalized With Minor Injuries

The driver of the Ford Escape was a 64-year-old woman from Fairfield, Connecticut. She was transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital with injuries described by police as minor.

Barthell was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released additional personal details about him or his family.

Police Investigation and Witness Appeal

The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is assisting with the investigation. Officials have not announced a final determination explaining why the pickup entered the adjacent lane.
